We have just diagnosed our first case of lungworm in an Appleby dog (previous cases had originated outside Appleby) This means we now have slugs and snails in the Appleby area infected with the worm and these can spread it to your dog. This can happen through consuming the slug whilst eating grass etc or even by licking the slug/snail trail.
Signs of infection vary from a slight cough to life threatening blood circulation and clotting problems. There are 2 ways to prevent infection:
Use a milbemycin wormer on a monthly basis
Use a moxidectin based spot on.
It is also important to clean up your dog's faeces to prevent them infecting slugs and snails
Please call us to discuss what we would recommend for your dog
